A Year of Life Begins

I think that everyone, at some point in their lives, has one of those moments where you realise, that despite your best efforts to ‘shake things up’, or to do things ‘differently from now on’, or ‘live in the moment’, that really life is just a long routine, and that you are trapped.
Famously known as the Father of Existentialism, Soren Kierkegaard stated that: “It is the duty of the human understanding to understand that there are things which it cannot understand, and what those things are.” Existentialism, for those who are unfamiliar with the word, or who pretend to understand what it means but really have no clue, is a philosophical thought based upon the idea that the human existence, and the individual are free, and thus solely responsible for the meaning of their life.
Carl Jung, another philosopher, stated that: “we always have a tendency to project into things the difficulties of our understanding and to call them complicated, while in reality they are very simple.”
Maybe he is right. In its most basic form, anything and everything is simple. Maybe it is just us that complicate a situation by adding our own attitudes, opinions and fears into the mix. Maybe we are meant to make things complicated, because otherwise it is just too easy? Everyone keeps saying that life is hard, but in reality, maybe we make it that way?
So here begins a year of understanding, of simplify, and of discussing the random and unpredictable events that life manages to get us all tangled up in.
